'EastEnders' nabs 8.4m as Janine learns Frank's secret

EastEnders remained the most popular soap on Thursday evening as Janine discovered the truth behind the car lot fire, according to overnight viewing data.

The BBC One soap appealed to 8.38m (37%) from 7.30pm, as Pat told Janine about Phil and Frank's secret. A further 895k (4.4%) saw BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

Coronation Street was Thursday's second-most popular soap, averaging 7.79m (30.6%) for ITV1 from 8.30pm, as Fiz returned home as a free woman. An additional 160k (0.6%) watched the episode on ITV1+1.

Emmerdale grabbed 7.35m (34.3%) on ITV1 from 7pm for Debbie and Andy's disappointment at being told they can't have IVF treatment. The rural soap pulled in 7.03m (29.2%) for its second showing, as Debbie became desperate in her search of another way to save Sarah.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks had 1.15m (5.6%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm. E4's first look showing appealed to 396k (1.8%) from 7pm and 112k (0.5%) on +1.

BBC One's Doctors entertained 1.58m (22.8%) from 1.45pm, while Neighbours had 646k (9.3%) on Channel 5, along with 1.23m (7.3%) from 5.30pm.

Also on Channel 5, Home and Away appealed to 829k (4.3%) from 6pm, and 5*'s advanced showing of the next episode pulled in 499k (2.4%) from 6.30pm.
