'Coronation Street' clings on to Monday ratings crown

Coronation Street just stayed ahead of EastEnders in the Monday evening ratings battle, despite slipping below 8m viewers, according to overnight audience data.

ITV1's flagship soap averaged 7.86m (38.2%) from 7.30pm and 126k (0.5%) on +1 as Ruth threatened Fiz with violence if she grassed her up. Fiz's tough prison 'justice' from Ruth was watched by 7.38m (31.3%) from 8.30pm and 109k (0.4%) on timeshift.

EastEnders appealed to 7.52m (32.7%) on BBC One from 8pm, as Whitney faced her worst nightmare after Rob started hassling her again. A further 825k (4.1%) caught BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

On Emmerdale, 6.44m (33.9%) tuned in on ITV1 from 7pm, featuring Mia seeing Ella and Adam's true colours as Declan revealed all about their affair.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 1.01m (5.9%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm and 126k (0.6%), before E4's first look at the next episode pulled in 427k (2.2%).

Earlier, Doctors had 1.38m (19%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours entertained 744k (10.1%) on Channel 5. The Aussie soap's repeat screening fetched 1.15m (8.7%) from 5.30pm.
