Thursday's 'EastEnders' nabs 7.4m with Tanya's cancer shock

EastEnders remained the most popular soap on Thursday evening as Tanya heard some bad news, according to overnight viewing data.

EastEnders appealed to 7.39m (35.4%) on BBC One from 7.30pm, as Tanya received the alarming news from Yusef that she may have cancer. A further 811k (4.1%) saw BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

Coronation Street averaged 7.21m (31.4%) for ITV1 from 8.30pm, as Eva tried to scupper the chance of a reconciliation for Leanne and Stella. An additional 311k (1.4%) watched the episode on ITV1+1.

Rural soap Emmerdale grabbed 6.41m (32.2%) on ITV1 from 7pm and 175k (0.8%) on +1, as Aaron put lives in danger when he got behind the wheel. Cain's arrival on the scene of the accident to rescue Aaron and Chas was seen by 6.94m (31.8%) from 8pm and 230k (1%) on timeshift.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks had 930k (4.9%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm and 125k (0.6%) on +1. E4's first look at the next episode appealed to 523k (2.6%) from 7pm.

Earlier in the day, Doctors entertained 1.77m (20.7%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours had 654k (7.6%) on Channel 5. The Aussie drama's repeat screening was watched by 1.05m (7.2%) from 5.30pm.
