Monday ratings: 'Coronation Street' double soars past 8m

Coronation Street retained the Monday evening ratings crown with drama for Maria and Chris, according to overnight audience data.

ITV1's flagship soap averaged 8.3m (37%) from 7.30pm and 118k (0.5%) on +1 as Maria was left horrified as Chris completely lost control. Chris's confession to Cheryl that he is seriously ill was watched by 8.41m (34.9%) from 8.30pm and 179k (0.7%) on timeshift.

EastEnders appealed to 7.67m (32.7%) on BBC One from 8pm, as someone saw Max and Tanya together as they shared a passionate embrace outside The Vic. A further 702k (3.2%) caught BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

On Emmerdale, 6.71m (33.5%) tuned in on ITV1 from 7pm as Aaron's move to The Woolpack got off to a heated start, leaving Diane furious.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 890k (4.7%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm and 114k (0.5%), before E4's first look at the next episode pulled in 350k (1.8%).

Earlier, Doctors had 1.7m (21.2%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours entertained 718k (8.9%) on Channel 5. The Aussie soap's repeat screening fetched 1.06m (7.6%) from 5.30pm.
