'Coronation Street' rules Monday ratings

Coronation Street retained the Monday evening ratings crown with more drama for Gail, David and Kylie, according to overnight audience data.

ITV1's flagship soap averaged 7.98m (38.6%) from 7.30pm and 122k (0.5%) on +1 as David and Gail did some detective work after Kylie received a mysterious phone call. Gail's decision to become an unlikely source of support for Kylie was watched by 8.21m (36.1%) from 8.30pm and 177k (0.7%) on timeshift.

EastEnders appealed to 7.97m (36.2%) on BBC One from 8pm, as Syed shocked his family by announcing his plans to marry Christian. A further 786k (4%) caught BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

On Emmerdale, 6.33m (32.5%) tuned in on ITV1 from 7pm and 140k (0.6%) on +1 as Leyla took Jacob on an adventure, leaving David worrying that she would run off with him.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 1.18m (6.8%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm, before E4's first look at the next episode pulled in 426k (2.2%).

Earlier, Doctors had 1.36m (17.2%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours entertained 712k (9%) on Channel 5. The Aussie soap's repeat screening fetched 1.16m (8.9%) from 5.30pm.
