Coronation Street found itself ahead of EastEnders for the first time on a Thursday evening in over a month, overnight data shows.
Gail's final verdict attracted 8.53m (36.9%) from 8pm for Corrie's special hour-long episode, while a further 308k (1.3%) watched in HD. May 6 was the last time the soap claimed outright victory over its rival on a Thursday.
EastEnders sank to just 5.68m (26.6%) after being scheduled against the second half of Emmerdale, which picked up 6.33m (29.6%) between 7.30pm and 8pm. For the whole hour, the episode - which saw Nicola take stand in court - averaged 6.34m (31.2%). Due to the evening clash, EastEnders' repeat on BBC Three averaged 1.35m (6.5%).
Elsewhere, the week's fourth instalment of Hollyoaks - in which Steph's secret was finally revealed - interested 910k (5.1%). E4's first look was seen by 469k (2.4%) at 7pm.
Meanwhile, a respectable 1.3m (9.5%) watched Neighbours, with a further 225k (1.7%) catching Fiver's repeat at 7pm. Home and Away pulled in 969k (5.8%), then Fiver's first look brought in 511k (2.8%).
Doctors' episode yesterday, titled 'The Trouble With Charlie', drew 1.52m (21.5%) at its usual time of 1.45pm.
