6.9m see Elaine Peacock arrival in EastEnders on Tuesday

EastEnders topped the soap ratings on Tuesday evening (October 14) as Maria Friedman made her first appearance as Linda Carter's mother Elaine Peacock, overnight figures show.

6.9m (33.9%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Elaine arrived at the Queen Vic after Mick called her out of concern for Linda's strange behaviour. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 57k (3.3%) at the later time of 1.30am.

Emmerdale attracted 6.16m (31.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 252k (1.2%) on +1 as Jai was revealed as Charity's kidnapper.

Holby City rose to 4.64m (22.4%) at 8pm on BBC One as Michael Spence made a return - the show's highest rating since May 13.

Hollyoaks interested 933k (5.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 119k (0.6%) on +1 with the aftermath of Sienna knocking down Patrick, while E4's first look followed with 829k (4.2%) at 7pm and 174k (0.9%) on +1.

Neighbours appealed to 636k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 829k (5.7%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Brennan grew suspicious over Dakota's scheming.

Home and Away mustered 227k (3.3%) at 1.15pm and 664k (3.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look claimed 402k (2.2%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, BBC One's Doctors continued with 1.44m (20.9%) at 1.45pm.
