Coronation Street was Wednesday evening's top-rated soap (July 30) with Gail's heartbreaking decision, overnight figures show.
5.97m (33.1%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 395k (2.1%) on +1 as Gail decided to put her family's wishes before her own happiness and told Michael that they couldn't be together.
Emmerdale appealed to 4.77m (28.8%) at 7pm on ITV as Adam discovered the truth about Finn's attack, adding 279k (1.6%) on +1.
Hollyoaks managed 785k (5.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with Maxine and Patrick's wedding day drama, but E4's first look fared better with 855k (5.1%) at 7pm and 194k (1.1%) on +1 - the show's best E4 rating since June 2.
Over on Channel 5, the aftermath of Sonya and Naomi's Neighbours showdown entertained 522k (7.3%) at 1.45pm and 711k (6.0%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away claimed 191k (2.6%) at 1.15pm, 497k (3.6%) at 6pm and 263k (1.7%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
