Coronation Street topped the overnight soap ratings ahead of EastEnders by a considerable margin on Friday night.

The Kirsty-Tyrone storyline gripped 9.22m (39.7%) at 7.30pm as well as 132,000 on ITV +1.

Then 8.86m (35.6%) returned to Weatherfield an hour later at 8.30pm (+1: 110k).

EastEnders was runner-up with 7.77m (32.4%) as Tanya's domestic struggles continued. BBC Three's 10.30pm repeat appealed to 338k (1.8%).

Emmerdale logged 7.4m (33.2%) for David's unintended marriage proposal to Priya, adding 103k on timeshift.

Meanwhile, Hollyoaks pulled in 973k (4.5%) for Channel 4 at 6.30pm, after which E4's first look grabbed 707k (3.2%) and 118k on +1.

Neighbours appealed to 649k (8%) at lunchtime and 1.02m (5.8%) in the 5.30pm slot for Channel 5's latest visit to Ramsay Street, while Home and Away attracted 782k (3.9%) at 6pm and 537k (2.5%) for 5*'s first look.

Elsewhere, Doctors averaged 1.74m (21.4%) for an episode titled 'Heston's Last Testament'.
