'EastEnders' performs well for BBC One on New Year's Day

EastEnders topped the 9 million mark with its hour-long New Year's Day episode, overnight figures show.



The Walford soap pulled in 9.09m (32.6%) at 8pm on BBC One as Sharon received two marriage proposals on the day of baby Lexi's christening.

Later, 523k (3.4%) watched BBC Three's repeat screening at 10.40pm.

Emmerdale, meanwhile, attracted 5.37m (20.7%) on ITV1 at the earlier time of 6.30pm with the latest problems in Katie and Declan's marriage, adding 456k (1.7%) on +1.
