The Traitors star Maddy Smedley has landed a "dream role" in the upcoming Christmas specials for Call the Midwife.

The star appeared in the first season of the UK reality show, eventually being banished in the eleventh and penultimate episode.

Since appearing on the show two years ago, Maddy has had acting roles in Hollyoaks and Big Boys, and has now landed another role as she will appear in the 2024 Christmas specials for the BBC drama.

"Can’t believe I’m saying this. I’m gonna be in Call the Midwife the Christmas special," she wrote on Instagram, with the post also including a photo of her character.

"Telling Dilys’ story, Hope I do it justice. One of my dream jobs, thank you for having me @callthemidwife.official and thanks Alex my agent for getting me through the door @unitedagents @gingeyalex and @sophieparrottcd for casting little old me. Agh see you on Christmas Day xxx #callthemidwife."

Maddy will play the part of Dilys Shaughnessy, a "downtrodden" and "poverty-stricken" mother who is evicted from her house alongside her family, with the group taking to the streets as a variant of the Hong Kong flu rips through Poplar (via The Mirror).

The post on Instagram was greeted by several fans and followers, with Alexandra Campbell – who serves as Maddy’s agent – writing in the comment section: "You nailed that tape! So excited to see the show!!"

Maddy also received messages of congratulations from her Traitors co-stars, with Amos Ogunkoya writing "Incredible," whilst Amanda Lovett added: "Fantastic news il be tuned in xxx well deserved Maddy xx."

"Amazing! Well done. Can’t wait to see you on the show Mads. My favourite programme," added one follower, with a second commenting: "Amazing, loved watching you in the traitors and followed you ever since, well done! X"

The upcoming specials will see a change in tradition as the 90-minute episode has been ditched in favour of two hour-long instalments, with series creator Heidi Thomas remarking that she "couldn’t resist" writing additional material.
