A soap fan-favourite, this year's The Big Quiz has been pushed back.

The annual face-off between Coronation Street and Emmerdale was originally scheduled for tonight (December 5) at 9.15pm, but has been moved to this Friday (December 9). ITV will air an episode of Beat the Chasers tonight instead.

As usual, the show will have actors from ITV's two long-running series compete against each other to determine who knows their own soap better. Once again, the two teams will be led by Corrie's Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Emmerdale veteran Mark Charnock (Marlon Dingle).

Alongside Shepherd, Corrie's Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) and Ryan Russell (Michael Bailey) are confirmed to appear. As for Emmerdale, Charnock will be joined by Nicola Wheeler (Nicola King) and Jurell Carter (Nate Robinson).

Participants are called to answer questions about milestones and actors of the two soaps. This year, the quiz will also include the most popular soap double acts, the biggest storylines of the year and memorable social media posts by the shows' stars.

As both soaps have four wins each under their belt, the 2022 final result will function as a tie-breaker and settle the score for the time being.

The timeslot for the new air date is yet to be confirmed and will depend on whether ITV will get to broadcast the World Cup quarter-final game between Netherlands and Argentina. If it does, then The Big Quiz will air at 9.15pm. If the match airs on the BBC, the quiz will be moved to a slightly earlier timeslot: 9pm.

The Big Quiz airs on ITV on December 9. Time slot TBC.
