EastEnders topped the soap ratings on Thursday evening (January 29) with the revelation of Shabnam Masood's secret, overnight figures show.
The Walford drama was the most-watched programme of the day, attracting 7.43m (34.9%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Shabnam confided in Stacey about how she abandoned her own baby daughter. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 356k (2.4%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale attracted 6.29m (30.9%) at 7pm on ITV and 130k (0.6%) on +1 as Emma left James to die after their latest argument led to an accident on the farm, while the audience increased slightly to 6.34m (28.4%) at 8pm and 206k (0.9%) on +1 as Pete's sudden arrival forced Emma to change tack.
Hollyoaks interested 879k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Lindsey and Freddie's problems got worse with Joe's return to the village, while E4's first look topped the day's multichannel ratings with 727k (3.6%) at 7pm and 197k (0.9%) on +1.
Neighbours appealed to 711k (8.8%) at 1.45pm and 902k (5.4%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Sheila's latest health scare was resolved.
Home and Away managed 257k (3.1%) at 1.15pm and 653k (3.5%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 370k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, Doctors put in another strong performance with 1.71m (21.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
