Coronation Street: David, Callum plot brings in 7.8m

Coronation Street topped the soap ratings on Monday evening (January 5) with the continued aftermath of Kylie's departure, overnight figures show.

The Weatherfield drama was the most-watched show of the day, bringing in 7.81m (34.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV as David reported Callum to the police. However, Corrie's second episode of the night dipped against the Wimbledon vs. Liverpool game on BBC One, attracting 6.64m (26.3%) at 8.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.6m (30.9%) at 7pm on ITV and 150k (0.6%) on +1 as Finn faced an angry backlash from the Bartons after tracking down Emma.

Hollyoaks claimed 984k (4.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the aftermath of Rick's murder, while E4's first look followed with 658k (3.1%) at 7pm and 219k (0.9%) on +1.

Waterloo Road topped the day's multichannel ratings on its new home of BBC Three, mustering 787k (3.2%) at 8pm as the school brought in a new deputy head and an influx of new students. Later, the repeat screening on BBC One managed 972k (8.9%) at 10.35pm.

Neighbours made a strong return to screens as fans tuned in for the resolution to the soap's three big cliffhangers. 731k (9.0%) saw the 1.45pm airing on Channel 5 - the show's best lunchtime rating since October 21 - while 923k (5.6%) watched at 5.30pm.

Home and Away also fared well with its best teatime rating in over a year, taking 747k (4.0%) at 6pm. The show also had 243k (3.0%) at 1.15pm, while 5*'s first look secured 451k (2.2%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors returned to BBC One with 1.58m (19.5%) at 1.45pm.
