Coronation Street rose back above the 8 million mark as Peter Barlow's trial verdict was revealed on Monday evening (October 20), overnight figures show.
8.04m (36.9%) tuned in at 7.30pm on ITV as Peter and his loved ones were surprised to learn that the jury had reached its decision. The audience rose to 8.42m (36.1%) at 8.30pm and 110k (0.5%) on +1 as Peter was devastated to hear that he had been found guilty of killing Tina McIntyre.
The trial's conclusion earned Corrie its best rating since May 29, when 8.5m saw the aftermath of Rob's brutal attack on Tina.
EastEnders attracted 7.14m (31.0%) at 8pm on BBC One as Ronnie confessed to Charlie that she had killed a man. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 329k (2.4%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale also enjoyed a strong evening, bringing in its highest audience since March 3 as 6.98m (34.2%) saw the aftermath of Charity's kidnap at 7pm on ITV and 108k (0.5%) on +1.
Hollyoaks interested 1.03m (5.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Peri put herself in danger with an attention-seeking stunt, while E4's first look followed with 815k (4.0%) at 7pm and 122k (0.5%) on +1.
Neighbours entertained 654k (9.2%) at 1.45pm and 874k (6.0%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 with Kyle and Georgia's wedding.
Home and Away mustered 257k (3.4%) at 1.15pm and 584k (3.4%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look claimed 441k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, Doctors was seen by 1.56m (22.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
