EastEnders rises to 8.4m with Lucy Beale death aftermath

EastEnders rose further in the ratings on Tuesday evening (April 22) with the continued aftermath of Lucy Beale's death, overnight figures show.

The Walford soap soared to 8.39m (37.8%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as the Beale family were left devastated by Lucy's demise in an emotional episode.

EastEnders' rating was its highest since Alfie and Roxy's wedding on November 25, which had 8.41m. The show was also up 1.8m week-on-week and performed strongly against the Chelsea game on ITV.

Later, BBC Three's repeat screening enjoyed its highest figure since March 4 with 643k (4.6%) watching at 10.30pm.

Elsewhere, Emmerdale had its best rating of the month so far, attracting 6.56m (33.3%) at 7pm on ITV and 134k (0.6%) on +1 as Moira denied James's theory about Adam being his son.

Holby City interested 4.93m (21.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Jac and Jonny's war continued.

Hollyoaks appealed to 1.01m (5.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Fraser Black was murdered, while E4's first look was boosted to 930k (4.7%) at 7pm and 176k (0.8%) on +1 as the mystery began over who the culprit was.

Over on Channel 5, repeat airings of Kate Ramsay's Neighbours death were seen by 397k (5.6%) at 1.45pm and 650k (4.6%) at 5.30pm. The sad episode had already been seen by 1.41m at 6.30pm on Easter Monday.

Home and Away managed 251k (3.2%) at 1.15pm, 694k (4.2%) at 6pm and 459k (2.5%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
