Coronation Street was Monday's top-rated soap

Coronation Street topped Monday evening's soap ratings (January 27) as Fiz heard the truth about Hayley's death, overnight figures show.

8.86m (39.4%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 184k (0.8%) on +1 as Fiz confronted Roy with her suspicions over Hayley's final day, while 8.68m (36.1%) returned at 8.30pm and 209k (0.9%) on +1 as Roy was forced to tell Fiz that Hayley ended her own life.

EastEnders also performed well as 8.05m (33.7%) tuned in at 8pm on BBC One for Timothy West's first scenes as Stan Carter, the show's highest figure since Kat and Alfie's reunion in November. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 416k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale attracted 7.45m (34.3%) at 7pm on ITV as Dan and Ali felt intimidated following Declan's warning, adding 168k (0.7%) on +1.

Hollyoaks appealed to 1.09m (5.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Fraser tried to protect Grace by ensuring that Jim kept quiet, while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 722k (3.3%) at 7pm and 153k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 726k (9.9%) at 1.45pm and 899k (5.4%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away had 235k (3.1%) at 1.15pm, 648k (3.4%) at 6pm and 492k (2.4%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.73m (23.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
