'Coronation Street' rises to 9.6m with Hayley's collapse

Coronation Street continued to rise in the ratings on Monday evening (October 21) as Hayley Cropper's cancer storyline continued, overnight figures show.

9.64m (42.1%) tuned in at 7.30pm on ITV and 151k (0.6%) on +1 as Hayley collapsed in the aftermath of her argument with Roy. 9.24m (37.6%) returned at 8.30pm and 175k (0.7%) on +1 as the much-loved character was admitted to hospital.

Emmerdale also continued to perform well as 7.77m (36.9%) watched at 7pm to see David and Alicia finally get together, adding 205k (0.9%) on +1.

EastEnders attracted 7.12m (30.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Whitney was falsely accused of assaulting Dennis, while BBC Three's repeat screening secured 442k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks pulled in one of its highest figures of the year at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as 1.28m (6.3%) watched Leanne pass away after marrying Dennis in hospital. E4's first look followed with 729k (3.5%) at 7pm and 135k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 779k (10.3%) at 1.45pm and 927k (6.0%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 233k (3.0%) at 1.15pm, 672k (3.7%) at 6pm and 368k (1.8%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors had 1.56m (20.6%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
