Corrie tops Friday's soap ratings with Emmerdale back in 2nd

Coronation Street was Friday evening's top-rated soap (September 27) as big changes loomed at the Rovers Return, overnight figures show.

Michelle's decision to accept a job at the pub and subsequent row with Carla pulled in 7.67m (39.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 186k (0.8%) on +1, while 7.39m (32.2%) returned at 8.30pm and 227k (1.0%) on +1 to see Steve ask Stella about buying The Rovers.

Emmerdale attracted 6.31m (35.6%) at 7pm on ITV with Jimmy's van crash, adding 150k (0.7%) on +1.

EastEnders interested 6.07m (28.7%) at 8pm on BBC One with the dramatic fallout from David's return. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 375k (2.6%) on +1.

Hollyoaks managed 790k (4.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as evil Clare returned to screens, while E4's first look followed with 467k (2.6%) at 7pm and 102k (0.5%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours appealed to 470k (8.0%) at 1.45pm and 754k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 174k (2.9%) at 1.15pm, 572k (3.7%) at 6pm and 350k (2.1%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.33m (22.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
