'EastEnders' tops Thursday soap ratings

EastEnders was Thursday evening's (September 19) top-rated soap with Sam's shock health news, overnight figures show.

6.99m (34.5%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Sam revealed that he urgently needs a kidney transplant. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 445k (3.1%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale attracted 6.75m (35.2%) at 7pm on ITV and 229k (1.0%) on +1 as Debbie stepped up her attempts to get a confession out of Cameron, while 6.63m (29.7%) returned at 8pm and 462k (2.1%) on +1 as a dramatic hostage situation led to Cameron's arrest.

Waterloo Road brought in 3.03m (13.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as Kevin and Princess shared a surprise kiss.

Hollyoaks grabbed 803k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the tragic aftermath of Lindsey's accident, while E4's first look had 683k (3.5%) at 7pm and 102k (0.5%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours' hit and run whodunit interested 815k (11.4%) at 1.45pm and 757k (5.6%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 281k (3.8%) at 1.15pm, 545k (3.4%) at 6pm and 375k (2.1%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.53m (21.6%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
