Coronation Street soared back above the 8 million mark on Monday evening (September 2) as the Croppers received devastating news, overnight figures show.

8.1m (40.0%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 234k (1.0%) on +1 as Hayley's operation day arrived, while the audience increased to 8.5m (37.8%) at 8.30pm and 265k (1.1%) on +1 as Hayley and Roy heard that her tumour is inoperable.

EastEnders brought in 6.92m (31.3%) at 8pm on BBC One as Max lost his temper with Carl, while BBC Three's repeat screening secured 373k (2.5%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.54m (35.1%) at 7pm on ITV with Rhona's surprising idea regarding her recovery, adding 232k (1.1%) on +1.

Hollyoaks gripped 921k (5.3%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Mercedes uncovered Doctor Browning's plan, while E4's dramatic first look had 381k (2.0%) at 7pm and 109k (0.5%) on +1.

On Channel 5, Robbo's blackmail plan on Neighbours was seen by 602k (8.5%) at 1.45pm and 809k (6.3%) at 5.30pm, while the final week of Home and Away's 'Summer Bay's Sexiest' countdown kicked off with 39k (0.2%) at 6.30pm on 5*.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.44m (20.5%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
