Emmerdale continues to perform well in the soap ratings

Emmerdale and EastEnders remained close in Thursday's soap ratings (August 8), overnight figures show.

The evening's first visit to the Dales, which saw Laurel confront the carjacker, brought in 6.1m (35.6%) on ITV at 7pm and 160k (0.8%) on +1. The audience increased to 6.28m (31.0%) at 8pm and 213k (1.0%) on +1 as Marlon and Cain raced against time to save Laurel.

EastEnders appealed to 6.2m (32.5%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Lauren tried to make amends with family and friends on the Square. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 417k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks attracted 827k (5.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 122k (0.6%) on +1 with the continued aftermath of Myra's attack, while E4's first look had 458k (2.7%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Sonya's struggles in Neighbours were seen by 612k (9.7%) at 1.45pm and 842k (7.3%) at 5.30pm. On 5*, classic screenings of Home and Away continued with 81k (0.5%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors entertained 1.2m (19.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
