'Coronation Street' Kirsty, Fiz storyline boosts ratings

Coronation Street fans were hooked by the latest twist in Kirsty Soames's storyline on Friday evening, early viewing figures show.

Some 8.3m (37.7%) watched 7.30pm's episode which saw Fiz report Kirsty to the police, then 8.5m (36.2%) returned at 8.30pm for Kirsty's latest violent attack.

Rarely does Coronation Street's later edition top the ratings. ITV1 +1 added 168,000 for Corrie's earlier edition, and 148k for the ITV soap's concluding instalment.

Lauren and Joey's car crash in EastEnders was seen by 7.31m (32.1%) at 8pm, while 374k (2.1%) caught BBC Three's 10.30pm repeat. Midnight's EastEnders Omnibus appealed to 330k (7.3%).

Emmerdale's aftermath of Katie's mineshaft horror attracted 6.98m (33.8%) from 7pm as well as 234k on +1.

Meanwhile, Channel 4's 6.30pm Hollyoaks broadcast dipped to 845k (4.3%), but E4's first look grabbed a decent 568k (2.7%) at 7pm (+1: 109k).

Kyle's split from Jade in Neighbours drew 672k (9.9%) from 1.45pm and 841k (5.1%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away picked up 614k (3.3%) and 462k (2.3%) for 5*'s first look.

Elsewhere, Doctors averaged 1.44m (21.3%) at lunchtime for a story entitled 'All Because the Lady Loves'.
