Peter Barlow's fury at arch nemesis Nick Tilsley attracted 6.48m (26.8%) to ITV1 at 7.30pm, and an impressive 558k (2.6%) an hour later on +1.

The Weatherfield soap pulled ahead of Countryfile, which received a lead-in of nearly 9 million from the BBC's evening news. Andy Murray's Wimbledon final loss gave BBC One a huge advantage leading into primetime.

Only 6.1m tuned in the last time Corrie was screened on a Sunday night, in June.

Marlon's surprise offer to Ashley in Emmerdale, which was screened at 7pm, logged 5.12m (21.9%) and 374k (1.6%) on timeshift - equalling 5.4m.

The Coronation Street Omnibus aired in the morning on ITV2 to an audience of 315k (3.3%).
