Friday soap ratings: 'Emmerdale' baby drama brings in 7.6m

Val and Eric's devastation over the fact Amy didn't turn to them in her hour of need meant 7.6m viewers (35%) tuned in to Emmerdale on Friday night.

The Yorkshire soap brought in a further 112k (0.5%) on timeshift. Later on ITV1, Sophie's big decision made Coronation Street the most-watched soap of the night. Some 8.39m (37.4%) saw the 7.30pm instalment, and that already impressive figure jumped to 8.5m (35.9%) at 8.30pm. The second episode bagged a further 143k (0.6%) on +1.

Tariq's return to Albert Square pulled in 7.96m (33.9%) for BBC One at 8pm, and BBC Three's 10pm EastEnders repeat bagged 477k (2%). Earlier on, Doctors appealed to its core audience of 1.76m (24.1%).

Channel 4's Hollyoaks took 1.1m (5.2%) for an episode which saw Warren resolve to get rid of Brendan. Just under half that audience (493k; 2.3%) switched over to E4 at 7pm for a first look at the next episode.

On Channel 5, an afternoon showing of Neighbours drummed up 642k (8.7%). At 5.30pm, its fortunes improved to 1.18m (6.9%). Home and Away followed at 6pm with 935k (4.8%).
