Chesney's heartbreak boosts 'Coronation Street' double

The Coronation Street double-bill again beat EastEnders to the Monday evening ratings crown with sadness for Chesney, according to the latest audience data.

Coronation Street appealed to 9.11m (39.5%) on ITV1 from 7.30pm and 122k (0.5%) on +1 for Chesney's escalating troubles over Schmeichel and his finances. From 8.30pm, the soap climbed to 9.67m (37.6%) and 136k (0.5%) on +1, as Chesney finally accepted that Schmeichel must be put to sleep.

BBC One's EastEnders just lagged behind with 8.83m (35.4%) from 8pm and 601k (2.9%) for BBC Three's repeat as Phil received some mysterious photographs relating to the car lot fire.

Back on ITV1, Emmerdale secured 7.56m (33.9%) from 7pm as the Barton kids became concerned after Moira moved out. A further 111k (0.4%) watched the episode on timeshift.

Hollyoaks pulled in 1.4m (6.4%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm and a further 156k (0.7%) on Channel 4+1. E4's first look screening continued to perform, averaging 656k (2.9%) from 7pm and 115k (0.5%) on +1.

Channel 5's Neighbours entertained 734k (9.4%) from 1.45pm and 1.26m (7.3%) from 5.30pm. Home and Away managed 909k (4.5%) from 6pm, and 5*'s first look episode was seen by 511k (2.3%) from 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, the latest episode of BBC One's Doctors attracted 1.86m (24%) from 1.45pm.
