Mounting tension at Underworld made Coronation Street Friday's most-watched soap.
Some 7.8m (36.4%) saw Carla lose control of the factory at 7.30pm, while 7.56m (32.7%) tuned in an hour later to watch her showdown with Frank.
Both instalments attracted audiences on ITV1+1, with the first bringing in an extra 145k (0.6%), and the second improving to 202k (0.9%).
Earlier on ITV1, Emmerdale scored 6.65m (33%) for an episode which saw Charity get tough on Cain. A further 130k (0.6%) watched on timeshift.
BBC One's EastEnders nabbed 7.61m (33.3%) as Syed tried to fix his impossible situation. As always, the 10pm BBC Three repeat proved popular, intreresting 581k 2.9%
The same channel's afternoon soap offering, Doctors, took 1.51m (21.9%) with an episode titled 'Running on Empty'.
Channel 4's Hollyoaks stole 1.03m (5.5%) at 6.30pm as Mercedes got a nasty shock, and E4's first look brought 506k (2.5%) back for more.
On Channel 5, Home and Away held on to 856k (5.1%) for an episode which saw Irene find a lump in her breast. Neighbours had fared almost as well with its early showing, taking 703k (10.1%) afternoon viewers. However, an evening repeat, which increased to 1.05m (7.3%), had its Aussie rival comprehensively beaten.
