'EastEnders' grabs 7.2m as suspicions grow over Kat's baby

Alfie's suspicions that he might not be the father of Kat's new baby helped make EastEnders the most popular soap on Friday night.

Some 7.15m (32.6%) tuned in to BBC One at 8pm to watch Alfie accuse Kat of cheating on him, and a further 642k (3.3%) watched BBC Three's 10pm repeat.

Over on ITV1, Emmerdale opened with 6.01m (32%) at 7pm (+1: 105k, 0.5%) as the gravity of Sarah's condition became apparent to Andy and Debbie.

The first episode in a Coronation Street double bill, which saw Gary become embroiled in the hostage situation, pulled in 7.05m (34.4%) at 7.30pm (+1: 116k, 0.5%). The second, in which viewers were treated to a confrontation between Audrey and Kylie, held 6.77m (29.3%) at 8.30pm (+1: 209k, 0.9%).

Tension between Jason and Bart attracted 910k (5.4%) to Hollyoaks on Channel 4 (+1: 49k, 0.2%), while E4's first look nabbed 349k (1.9%) at 7pm.

Earlier on, Doctors brought in 1.39m (20.2%) for BBC One at 1.45pm, and Neighbours snatched 604k (8.7%) in the same slot for Channel 5. The Australian soap's 5.30pm repeat added a further 1.03m (7.8%).
