Kevin Webster's fury at his daughter Sophie for losing £20,000 boosted Coronation Street to over 7.9m last night, early viewing figures indicate.
Sophie and Sian's nightmare took 7.63m (38.1%) at 7.30pm, before an escalating argument between the Barlows and the Websters fetched 7.8m (33.5%) at 8.30pm (+1: 124k).
EastEnders pulled in 7.12m (33.9%) for an episode revolving around the changing fortunes of Janine Butcher. BBC Three's repeat had 618k (3.4%) at 10pm.
Still not having recovered from Thursday's thrashing at the hands of an EastEnders special, Emmerdale could only muster 5.91m (32.1%) as Jimmy and Gennie's bond increased.
Meanwhile, Mitzeee's threat to Warren in Hollyoaks logged 964k (5.6%) at 6.30pm, after which E4's first look grabbed 414k (2.2%) at 7pm.
Elsewhere, an instalment of Doctors titled 'Pink and Blue' lured 1.61m (22.1%), while a reckless gamble from Kyle in Neighbours drew 748k (10.3%) for its 1.45pm edition, adding 1.2m (8.6%) at 5.30pm.
Home and Away appealed to 769k (4.8%) at 6pm as Romeo invited Indi to Hawaii. 5*'s first look then fetched 418k (2.4%) at 6.30pm.
