Friday night's ratings: 'Emmerdale' thrashed by live tennis

Emmerdale sunk to under 5m viewers against the Wimbledon semi-final on Friday, according to the latest overnight data.

As the fallout from Declan's dumping of Ella continued, 4.96m (24.4%) tuned in to the village serial at 7pm, then an extra 190k watched on ITV1 +1 - overall, its lowest audience this year.

Coronation Street was down to 6.54m (30%) as Stella's secret was revealed to Leanne at 7.30pm (+1: 189k) versus the peak of Andy Murray's loss to Rafael Nadal, after which a healthier 7.48m (35.2%) watched the 8.30pm episode (+1: 273k).

EastEnders won the prize of most-watched soap, with 7.62m (36.3%) on BBC One. BBC Three's 10pm repeat added 785k (4.1%).

Meanwhile, Hollyoaks plunged to a woeful 639k (3.4%), before E4's first look fetched 248k (1.2%).

Elsewhere, Neighbours took 604k (7.5%) at 1.45pm and 948k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away logged 606k (3.4%) at 6pm and 361k (1.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
