Soap ratings: Hollyoaks story boosts E4 figures on Monday

Hollyoaks had its highest E4 figure since January on Monday evening (March 31) as the O'Connor family were hit by tragedy, overnight figures show.

909k (4.8%) tuned in to E4's first look screening at 7pm and a further 126k (0.5%) on +1 as Sinead's baby daughter Katy passed away in hospital following her recent poor health.

Hollyoaks was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day and had its third-highest E4 figure of the year so far, charting just below two episodes which focused on the John Paul and Finn rape storyline in January.

Earlier in the evening, Sinead's car accident was seen by 975k (5.5%) in the traditional 6.30pm slot on Channel 4 and 133k (0.6%) on +1.

Coronation Street was the most-watched soap of the day, bringing in 7.77m (36.9%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 146k (0.6%) on +1 as Carla finally revealed her pregnancy news to Peter. The audience increased to 7.97m (34.1%) at 8.30pm and 177k (0.7%) on +1 as Tina shocked Peter by revealing that she might be pregnant too.

EastEnders appealed to 7.31m (31.8%) at 8pm on BBC One as Tina brought Stan to stay at the Queen Vic. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 151k (6.7%) at the later time of 1.10am.

Emmerdale continued with 6.22m (32.7%) at 7pm on ITV as Belle was charged with murder, adding 138k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 616k (9.4%) at 1.45pm and 781k (5.6%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away entertained 196k (2.9%) at 1.15pm, 566k (3.5%) at 6pm and 483k (2.7%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors mustered 1.46m (22.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
