Coronation Street was Friday evening's top-rated soap (January 31) with Hayley Cropper's funeral episodes, overnight figures show.

7.81m (36.5%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 246k (1.1%) on +1 as Roy struggled to keep a lid on his true emotions during Hayley's send-off. The audience increased to 7.93m (34.0%) at 8.30pm and 268k (1.2%) on +1 as Roy did a disappearing act after the wake at The Rovers.

EastEnders attracted 6.85m (31.3%) at 8pm on BBC One as Annette Badland made her first appearance as Aunt Babe and Nikki made a play for David.

Emmerdale appealed to 6.55m (32.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 160k (0.7%) on +1 as Brenda was finally caught stealing.

Hollyoaks interested 966k (4.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with Trevor and Fraser's showdown, while E4's first look topped the multichannel ratings for the fifth night in a row with 774k (3.8%) at 7pm and 100k (0.5%) on +1.

On Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 668k (8.1%) at 1.45pm and 837k (5.1%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away grabbed 225k (2.7%) at 1.15pm, 564k (3.0%) at 6pm and 372k (1.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.55m (18.8%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
