'Coronation Street' double tops 8m with Frank's proposal

Coronation Street retained the Monday evening ratings crown as Carla was left emotionally torn after Frank asked her to marry him, according to overnight audience data.

ITV1's flagship soap averaged 8.42m (40.4%) from 7.30pm and 123k (0.5%) on +1 as Frank left Carla stunned by popping the question at The Rovers. Carla's dilemma over her future following Frank's decision to propose was watched by 8.04m (33.8%) from 8.30pm and 203k (0.8%) on timeshift.

EastEnders appealed to 8.02m (35%) on BBC One from 8pm, as Vanessa smashed everything in sight at Max's house and lashed out at those around her. A further 1.13m (5.4%) caught BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

On Emmerdale, 6.67m (34.1%) tuned in on ITV1 from 7pm and 115k (0.5%) on +1, as Nikhil was forced to apologise to the girls after Jai returned to work.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 990k (5.4%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm and 114k (0.5%), before E4's first look at the next episode pulled in 384k (2%).

Earlier, Doctors had 1.42m (20.1%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours entertained 660k (9.4%) on Channel 5. The Aussie soap's repeat screening fetched 1.15m (8.4%) from 5.30pm.
