There will be no place on Coronation Street's Rovers Return menu for Carl Heer’s steak, ale and Stilton pie.

The Bedworth baker’s dish was given the thumbs-down by one of the regulars of the Corrie pub in a live TV tasting.

Carl had made it to the final three on ITV’s This Morning competition to find a new pie to rival barmaid Betty’s hotpot.

But Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, who plays builder’s mate Jason Grimshaw in the long-running soap, decided that Carl’s dish was not for him.

“Not sure about the Stilton,” was his verdict when the pie came up for judging on the programme yesterday.

“The steak’s fine but the Stilton... ugh!”

Carl had devised the recipe at his home in Newcomen Road and was delighted when it was voted among the final three, with the winning choice to be advertised and served at the Rovers and written into an episode’s script.

Ryan represented the Corrie cast on the judging panel, alongside celebrity chef Phil Vickery and TV columnist Paul Ross.

They each had a taste of the selected pies and then awarded them points out of ten.
