Channel 4 has announced it has cancelled Steph's Packed Lunch after three years on the air.

The broadcaster shared a statement today (October 19) explaining the daytime show hosted by Steph McGovern won't be renewed for another season when the contract expire in December 2023.

"With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy," the statement said.

"We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50% origination out-of-London target."

Reportedly, the budget committed to the BAFTA-nominated show will be reinvested into other nations and regional productions.

The statement continued: "We will continue to build on the legacy of the show. Evolving what we do in line with our digital ambitions whilst continuing to reflect the lives of, and give a voice to, all our audiences across the UK and hope to work with Steph on other projects soon."

McGovern has yet to comment on the news. Just yesterday (October 19) the presenter shared a few snaps from the studio on her Instagram page.

In the wake of the cancellation, some viewers headed to McGovern's comment section, voicing their sadness at the show coming to a premature end.

"No… can't, don't want to believe your show is being axed…" one person wrote.

"I'm absolutely gutted that they have decided to axe the best daytime show ever," someone else commented on the show's official Instagram page.

"Steph is the best presenter ever, she deals with serious topics and gives people a chance to talk or reply."
