It was previously reported that the former MP was determined to carry on with the show following the death of Malcolm Widdecombe on Tuesday.

"Well, actually, his daughter will be in the audience on Saturday because his family are adamant that I should dance because he so enjoyed watching me," she told ITV's This Morning. "One of his last acts of consciousness was to turn towards the screen while I was performing what was purported to be a salsa last week.

"They are adamant they want me to do it so I'm going to do it."

Widdecome told presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that learning the quickstep for this week's show was "the hardest thing" that she had ever done.

However, the former Conservative MP insisted that she was having fun on the show.

"I dont call it a journey - all that psychobabble!" she said. "I'm having fun. That's it - I'm retired and I'm having fun."

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6pm on BBC One.
