A Coventry-born cooking star remains in the race to be crowned the first-ever Young MasterChef after wowing the judges in the latest round of the BBC show. Charlie was left tearful after cooking up a storm with her dish described as "delicious".

With the competition ramping up, the final seven faced their biggest task yet as they entered the world of professional cooking. Contestants replicated a fine dining recipe given to them by renowned London chef and two-time Great British Menu champion James Cochran.

Charlie, 23, sailed through to the next round on Thursday (January 12). She whipped up a dark chocolate mousse with white chocolate and pistachio crumb accompanied by passionfruit and Dulce De Leche.

Judge Kerth Gumbs said the young student had a 'real struggle' with the chocolate mousse which they feared would not be ready in time. Charlie, however, managed to pull off the dish which he described as light, smooth and rich.

James Cochran was also on hand to offer advice to the up-and-coming chefs saying Charlie "smashed it". Judge Poppy O'Toole added that the combination of pistachio and white chocolate was "delicious".

Poppy said: “I believe that with Charlie we have a chef in the making.” After the feedback, Charlie became tearful and said learning more about herself and her ability was "priceless".

Charlie, who was recently diagnosed with ADHD, was born and raised in Coventry with her mother, father, two younger brothers and cat, before moving to Bristol to study economics and management. She decided to apply for the show as she loves to cook and likes to think up quirky recipes in her spare time.
