A Rugby house near the town centre featured on BBC's Homes Under the Hammer this morning (July 21). The property programme paid a visit to the three-bed semi-detached brick home after it was sold at auction.

The exact area was not revealed but presenter Martin Roberts, who "liked this house a lot" said it was near local shops and plenty of amenities. However, he did have an unfortunate incident as he was doing a piece to camera.

He then tried to make a point about the electrical wiring, because the light switch, which was next to a door, was on the same side as the door hinges. As Martin opened the door to demonstrate that it blocked access the light switch, there was an audible crack.

He then said: "I think that just broke something. Not to worry. The light switch is not where you expect it to be, it should be on that side. Let's move on quickly!

He added: "Nothing a bit of industrial strength glue can't sort out!"

The buyer was called Adi, who has been in the property business for the last few years. He bought the home for £178,000 in March 2022 at the online auction. He decided to keep the bathroom downstairs but take some space off of two rooms, making space for one upstairs too.

Adi said he had a budget of between £15,000 to carry out any renovations with a timescale of just six weeks. And nine weeks later in May this year, a new kitchen had been fitted, an upstairs bathroom and an off-road parking area to the side of the house.

The property had been given a freshen up and lick of paint everywhere. Adi said with the cost of materials increasing, he went over his budget and ended up spending around £19,000.

Adi had invested a total of £197,000 and was interested in renting it out rather than selling. If he did want to sell, a local estate agent said the three-bed home could go for £240,000.

However, the home could be rented for £950 per calendar month.
