The Great British Bake Off aired its New Year's special yesterday (January 1), bringing back some favourites from previous series to make some festive bakes and have another chance at victory.

The returning bakers included Jon, Hermine and Rowan from the 2020 series, and Kim-Joy from the 2018 run.

The showstopper challenge tasked the contestants with making a 3D scene using biscuits, with Prue mentioning that the tricky bit would be to balance flavour with making something that was sturdy enough to hold.

Jon went all romantic with a wedding scene, Hermine went for a Northern Lights scene with a multicoloured window, Rowan called his a 'winter dream', which included a large chicken, while Kim-Joy decided to turn Prue Leith into a penguin and Paul Hollywood into a polar bear.

At the end of the episode, it was Kim-Joy who was crowned the winner. After finishing as runner-up to Rahul, who was far and away the best performer in their series, it was well-deserved win for Kim-Joy.

"Best. Feeling. Ever." Kim-Joy wrote on Twitter in reaction to her win.

The New Year's Bake Off special follows the Christmas special that aired a week before. It featured the cast of Channel 4's hugely popular and critically acclaimed It's a Sin, with Nathaniel Curtis crowned the winner, much to the (mock) frustration of Years and Years' Olly Alexander.

Applications for the 13th series of the show are closing today (January 2), and we expect it to air in the autumn as usual.

Both the Christmas and New Year's Bake Off specials are available on All 4 now.
