Gogglebox had an incredible night tonight (September 9) at the National Television Awards, scooping the gong for Best Factual Show.

Heading on stage to collect their award, Sophie Sandiford said: "Hi everyone. Just want to start by saying thank you so much to everyone who voted."

She then took a pause, much to brother Pete's amusement, before adding: "It's the drink, sorry."

Pete continued: "We just want to say a massive thank you to Channel 4 and the cast and crew.

"None of it would be possible without you. The crew work tirelessly to get the show out in such a short amount of time."

He then handed over to Julie Malone, who said: "On behalf of the Gogglebox family, I would just like to say a massive thanks for this award and on a sadder note, I'd like to dedicate it to all the people we've lost over the last 18 months.

"Andy, Pete, Mary and everybody's favourite grandma June who has been reunited with Leon."

The cast have sadly lost a number of much-loved sofa stars this year.

Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71 after a short illness in July, before both Mary Cook (92) and retired hotelier Andy Michael (61) died within days of each other last month.

June Bernicoff also passed away in 2020, two years after the death of her husband and fan-favourite Leon.

Gogglebox star Stephen Webb paid tribute recently to all those lost, saying it had been a "really sad time".

"Mary was a sweet, lovely lady, but with some brilliant innuendo and one-liners up her sleeve," he said.

"We loved watching her and Marina together – their popularity shows that whatever age you are, you can still connect with younger people through humour."

He continued: "Andy was always truly himself and we really admire how straight talking he was. You could always tell there was so much love and mutual respect within the Michael family."

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4.
