A Coventry musician has made it through the first round of ITV talent show The Voice after getting a chair turn from Olly Murs.

Alex Harry, 27, from Tile Hill, is well-known in Coventry having performed at the Godiva Festival and running a number of open-mic nights.

He appeared on the show tonight (January 16) performing a version of the song idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish.

Despite only receiving one-chair turn from judge Olly Murs, he received praised from the other judges, saying he had great vocal ability.

Judge Will.i.am also seemed very focused on Alex's socks.

Alex is now through to the next round of the competition and will take part in a head-to-head battle against a team member.

The winner will be chosen by Olly to go through to the semi-final.

Alex went to school at Woodlands Academy in Broad Lane.

He has performed twice on the Godiva Festival main stage, and has also recently released a single to celebrate the 2021 City of Culture win called Brighter Day

Alex also put his creative skills to work during the pandemic, to raise money for NHS charities. Bringing 22 local artists together, including Little Mix The Search winner Harry Holles, Alex produced a cover of Foo Fighters song Times Like These.

You can watch The Voice at 8.30pm on Saturdays, on ITV.
