This year's first dance-off has seen one celebrity leave the show
Following the first live show of the series last Saturday (October 24), the couples took to the dance floor for the second time yesterday (October 31) in an attempt to impress judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood, as well as the viewing public.
It was Jacqui Smith and Anton du Beke who became the first couple to dance off the floor this series.
With the couples' scores from both weeks added to the public vote, it was announced that former Home Secretary Jacqui and Anton would face the dreaded dance-off against Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing and his partner Karen Hauer.
Both couples performed their routines from yesterday again in a bid to impress the judges, with Jamie and Karen dancing their American Smooth to 'Night and Day' by Frank Sinatra, and Jacqui and Anton performing their Samba to Tom Jones' 'Help Yourself'.
Following the dance-off, it was time for the judges to deliver their verdicts and decide who would continue in the competition for another week.
"Based purely on dance merit and what I thought was the better dance of the evening, I'd like to save Jamie and Karen," said Craig.
His fellow judge Motsi agreed, saying: "First of all I'd like to say that both couples did very well, I felt that both couples picked up a notch this time.
"I just have to say that for me personally I think that one couple was a little bit on a higher level so I'm going to save Jamie & Karen."
With the decision made, head judge Shirley added that she would also have chosen to save Jamie and Karen.
Following the vote, Jacqui praised her partner Anton and said that she has had "the greatest adventure it's possible to imagine" on Strictly.
"I'm just sorry I can't continue it with this man, who has been absolutely fantastic and gorgeous to be with," she said. "But I don't feel too much shame in losing to these guys because they are a fantastic bunch of dancers, they really are. So I'll be watching you and supporting you.
"To Anton, I'd like to say you have been just an absolute joy to be with. I am so pleased and proud to have spent this time with you."
The results show also featured a spectacularly spooky dance routine by the show's team of professional dancers to mark Halloween, as well as a musical performance by singer Sam Smith, who performed their new single 'Diamonds'.
The eleven remaining Strictly couples will be back on the dancefloor on Saturday (November 7) for a special movies-themed edition of the show, with another couple then leaving the ballroom during the results show next Sunday (November 8).
Meanwhile Jacqui and Anton will chat to Zoe Ball about their Strictly experience on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on Monday (November 2) on BBC Two.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday (November 7) on BBC One.
