Channel 4's newlyweds doc pulls in 2.3m

Cutting Edge documentary Newlyweds: The One Year Itch was watched by just over 2.3m on Wednesday evening, according to the latest audience data.

The programme, which tracks how 50 British couples are faring one year on from their wedding day, averaged 2.33m (10.3%) for Channel 4 in the 9pm hour. A further 245k (1.3%) watched the show on Channel 4 +1.

An episode of crime drama Midsomer Murders brought in 3.95m (18%) for ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm.

However, the programme was eclipsed by Celebrity Masterchef, which cooked up 4.26m (20%) for BBC One in the 8pm hour, up 150k week-on-week. The Secret Tourist pulled in 3.4m (15.1%) for the channel from 9pm, down 460k week-on-week.

Earlier on BBC One, Penguin Island appealed to 3.62m (19.7 %) between 7.30pm and 8pm, outperforming ITV1's The Lakes, which grabbed 3.13m (17%) in the same timeslot.

However, Emmerdale performed well for ITV1 in the peaktime soap ratings, with 6.18m (33.5%) tuning in between 7pm and 7.30pm. A further 146k (0.8%) watched the show on ITV1 HD.

New series Dannii Minogue: Style Queen appealed to 602k (2.7%) on ITV2 in the 9pm hour, which was the fourth largest multichannel audience of the night. The programme pulled in a further 165k (0.9%) on timeshift.

The latest Big Brother took 2.32m (13.3%) for Channel 4 from 10pm and 156k (1.7%) on Channel 4 +1. How To Look Good Naked attracted 1.51m (7.1%) from 8pm and 142k (0.6%) on timeshift.

Wainwright's Walks: Coast To Coast averaged 1.16m (6.3%) from 7pm, before Mastermind: Champion Of Champions took 2.05m (11.1%).

Coast brought in 2.33m (11%) on BBC Two in the 8pm hour, with 101k (0.5%) watching the programme on BBC HD.

Professor Robert Bartlett's new series The Normans averaged an impressive 2.99m (13.2%) on BBC Two in the 9pm hour, before comedy panel show QI secured 2.05m (10.1%) between 10pm and 10.30pm.

Escape From Red Berlin attracted 439k (2.4%) to Five between 7.30pm and 8pm, before Emergency Bikers took 973k (4.6%) in the 8pm hour.

NCIS secured 1.34m (5.9%) for Five between 9pm and 10pm, and it was followed by Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which took 1.13m (6%) in the 10pm hour.

Overall, BBC One won primetime with 18.1% against ITV1's 17.8%. BBC Two came in third with 10.4%, followed by Channel 4 with 8.5% (+1: 0.8%) and Five with 4.5%.

Elsewhere, a screening of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider secured the biggest multichannel audience of the night, with 796k (3.7%) watching on BBC Three between 8pm and 9.30pm.
