Strictly Come Dancing becomes the most watched show on Saturday amid ratings boost

Usually a show has its best ratings in its first week and steadily drops from there, maybe rising again for the finale, but Strictly Come Dancing isn't your usual show.

The BBC reported (via Evening Standard) that last night's (September 28) episode, which was the second of the live shows, actually improved on last week's ratings. According to them, the show was watched by an average of 7.9 million people (8.9 million peak), up from the previous episode's 7.7 million average (and 8.5 million peak).

It's still a decline from previous years, but there are a billion and one streaming services vying for our attention nowadays, so that's to be expected.

And the BBC One show is still beating its main rival, ITV's Britain's Got Talent: The Champions, which pulled in a 4 million average and a 4.6 million peak.

It's important to note that these figures don't include on-demand numbers, but considering these are flagship live shows for the UK's two biggest channels, we think it's still interesting to keep track of.

Last night's show also featured improved scores for many of the celebs, and some technical errors that had viewers scratching their heads.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One.
