'The Hotel Inspector' returns to 1.7m

Five's The Hotel Inspector returned to over 1.7m viewers on Thursday evening, according to overnight audience figures.

The programme, which features Alex Polizzi trying to turn around ailing British hotels, averaged 1.76m (7.8%) for Five from 9pm.

However, the show was outperformed in the 9pm hour by Homes From Hell, which pulled in 3.28m (14.6%) on ITV1.

It also failed to beat It Shouldn't Happen At A Vet's, a Panorama special on standards in the veterinary service, which took 2.89m (12.8%) for BBC One in the 9pm hour.

Also on BBC One, the second episode of Celebrity Masterchef brought in 4.04m (17.8%) in the 8pm hour, down 630k on last night's opening broadcast.

The programme faced stiff competition from soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street, which pulled in respective audiences of 6.96m (31.6%) and 7.42m (31.8%) for ITV1 in the 8pm hour.

The latest episode of Big Brother brought in 2.4m (13.3%) for Channel 4 between 10pm and 11.10pm. The programme took an additional 184k (1.9%) on Channel 4 +1.

Location, Location, Location attracted 1.84m (8.1%) to Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 357k (1.6%) on timeshift. It was followed by Undercover Boss, which brought in 2.23m (9.9%) and 340k (1.8%) on Channel 4 +1.

On BBC Two, The Private Life Of Pigs appealed to 1.82m (8%) in the 8pm hour, before Victorian Pharmacy took 2.27m (10.1%) from 9pm.

Later on the channel, comedy panel show Mock The Week appealed to 2.14m (10.4%) between 10pm and 10.30pm.

Fifth Gear secured 401k (1.9%) for Five between 7.30pm and 8pm. It was followed by new series The Man Who Moves Buildings, which took 830k (3.7%) in the 8pm hour.

A screening of Quicksand attracted 632k (4.3%) to Five between 10pm and 11.45pm.

Overall, ITV1 narrowly won primetime with a share of 19.9% over BBC One's 19.4%. Channel 4 came in third with 8.7% (+1: 1.1%), followed by BBC Two with 8.2%, and Five with 4.3%.

Elsewhere, Peter Andre: The Next Chapter secured the biggest multichannel audience of the evening, with an impressive 1.16m (5.2%) watching on ITV2 in the 9pm hour and 183k (1%) tuning in on timeshift.
