One Born Every Minute has made its last delivery, because the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series has been cancelled.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed the news on Thursday (August 1), telling Radio Times: "One Born Every Minute won’t be returning."

The programme – which documents the events of a maternity hospital – has aired 11 series in eight years, showing audiences the births of over 250 babies.

Back in 2010, when the show was first launched, it was attracting an audience of 5 million on a regular basis. Its success also led to multiple international versions being created.

In the same year, it was awarded Best Factual Series at the BAFTAs and was nominated in the same category in 2011.

But viewing figures dropped drastically last year, with only 600,000 tuning in to watch the final episode of series 10.

Channel 4 has, however, commissioned a number of documentaries for 2019, including The Decision, which takes a look at the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation and how it treats patients struggling with mental health issues.

There's also the return of Born to be Different, which follows the lives of six children each living with a disability.

Anyone who still needs their fix of freshly-born babies may have to turn to BBC Two's new series The Arrival, which will follow newborns at home as their parents adjust to their new family life.
