'Don't Stop Believing' debuts to 1.4m

Five's new talent show Don't Stop Believing debuted to over 1.4m viewers on Sunday evening, according to overnight audience figures.

The programme, which features former Spice Girl Emma Bunton searching for Britain's best all-singing, all-dancing group, was watched by 1.43m (6.6%) on Five between 7pm and 8.30pm.

Heartbeat averaged 5.88m (24.2%) on ITV1 in the 8pm hour, and it was followed by detective series Taggart, which took 4.98m (21%) from 9pm.

On BBC One, Antiques Roadshow was watched by 4.48m (22.6%) in the 7pm hour, before a screening of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest secured 3.2m (13.5%) between 8pm and 10.15pm.

The television premiere of The Damned United, which stars Michael Sheen as legendary football manager Brian Clough, averaged 3.02m (13.5%) for BBC Two between 9pm and 10.30pm. A further 208k (0.9%) watched the film on BBC HD.

Also of BBC Two, a repeat of Dragon's Den secured 1.3m (6.4%) in the 7pm hour, before a new episode of Top Gear brought in 5.71m (23.5%) from 8pm, up 2.62m on last week's broadcast when the show was up against the World Cup final.

Big Brother attracted 2m (8.4%) to Channel 4 between 9pm and 10pm, with a further 341k (1.8%) watching the programme on timeshift.

Earlier on the channel, Dispatches: Catching The Gun Runners pulled in 990k (4.1%) in the 8pm hour. The broadcast was watched by 156k (0.7%) on Channel 4 +1.

After Big Brother, Alan Carr: Chatty Man was watched by 1.52m (8%) on Channel 4 and 198k (1.9%) on timeshift. A repeat of The IT Crowd then brought in 450k (3.9%) from 11.15pm and 106k (1.8%) on timeshift.

Screenings of The Wedding Singer and Not Another Teen Movie secured respective audiences of 995k (4.3%) and 580k (4.8%) for Five between 8.30pm and 12.15pm.

Overall, ITV1 dominated primetime with 19.9% against BBC One's 15.6%. BBC Two came in third with 14.8%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.6% (+1: 0.9%) and Five with 5.1%.
