Dancing on Ice 2019 has officially kicked off after the series' first episode premiered on Sunday (January 6).

But while Saturday night pitted two reality shows against each other in a new ratings battle, how did ITV's other returning series fare in the ratings?

Well, a total of 6.5 million viewers tuned in to see the likes of Didi Conn and James Jordan take to the ice for the first time (via TellyMix), making it the most-watched show of the weekend – even if it is a slightly lower figure than last year's launch episode, which had an audience of approximately 7.7m.

This year's series features another star-studded line-up, including TOWIE's Gemma Collins, Love Island's Wes Nelson, ex-Pussycat Dolls member Melody Thornton, soap star Mark Little and many more.

In week one, viewers saw only six of the dancing pairs and the remaining six pairs will hit the rink in this week's episode.

Jason Gardiner and Ashley Banjo have returned alongside Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean to judge the series, while original judge and ice dancer Karen Barber is also back as the show's new Head Coach.

"Having been involved with the show since its very first series, it holds a lot of special memories to me and I'm looking forward to working with this year's celebrities as we start transforming them into skating stars," she said.

No one has gone home yet, but we do know that Mark Little and his skating partner Brianne Delcourt will be one of the couples facing this weekend's first skate-off.

Dancing on Ice continues on Sunday (January 13) on ITV.
