Kate Silverton has become the eighth celebrity to leave this year's Strictly Come Dancing, departing the show during its iconic Blackpool Week.

Journalist Kate and her professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec found themselves in the dance-off with cricketer Graeme Swann and his professional partner Oti Mabuse in tonight's (November 18) results show after the judges' scores were combined with the viewer vote.

Kate and Aljaž attempted to impress the judges once again with their American Smooth to 'Everlasting Love' by Love Affair, while Graeme and Oti took to the floor to reprise their Theatre & Jazz (Couple's Choice) to 'The Trolley Song' from Meet Me in St Louis.

But when the time came for the judges to deliver their verdicts, it was Graeme and Oti who were saved as all the judges opted to send them through to next week.

"For technique and performance I'd like to save Graeme and Oti," Craig Revel Horwood kicked off the votes, with Darcey adding: "This is really tough, but the couple I would like to save on a more energised and detailed performance is Graeme and Oti."

Bruno Tonioli agreed, calling Grame and Oti's dance "the more accomplished and overall stronger performance", while head judge Shirley Ballas said she would also have saved Graeme and Oti, making it a clean sweep.

Speaking after the result was announced, Kate said that she was delighted to have had the chance to dance at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom, saying that she "couldn't have asked for anything better".

"You know, I'm actually weirdly perversely... not that I would have wanted to go out, but on a night like tonight in such a place, I couldn't have asked for anything better really," she said.

"I got to dance twice, went up in a hot air balloon twice, and I loved it twice. We have had what? Eleven weeks. And you have got me ballroom dancing. I am forever grateful to this man."

Aljaž also shared his pride for his partner, saying: "I can say it has been eleven weeks, I have to say we started every single dance from scratch and I am so impressed.

"Every week going out there and delivering incredible performances, for someone that has never performed in her life I am so incredibly proud of you. You have taught me so much, you're such an incredible woman, you're an incredible mother and thank you honestly it has been an amazing series. I'm never going to forget it and thanks to all of you who supported us."

Elsewhere, there was plenty of excitement during this weekend's Strictly, as Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev bagged the first perfect score of the series and professional dancers and real-life married couple Neil and Katya Jones danced together once again following her kiss scandal with Seann Walsh.

The results show also featured an appearance from Take That, who performed their new single 'Out of Our Heads'.

The remaining seven couples will take to the dance floor once again next Saturday (November 24) at 6.50pm on BBC One.
