After facing Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse in the dreaded Strictly Come Dancing dance-off, Danny John-Jules and Amy Dowden have bowed out of this year's competition.

The pair valiantly performed their samba routine once again, but it wasn't enough to convince the judges to keep them on the show for next week's big Blackpool special.

In fact, it was only Craig Revel Horwood who chose to save Danny and Amy, with Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas going the opposite way.

Reflecting on his time on the show, Red Dwarf and Death in Paradise star Danny noted: "It's been a great experience and I'm just so unhappy I didn't get Amy to where she needed to be. And I just think that as I said before, everything I have done on this show is because of Amy.

"It was her training, her choreography that got me here. I can only look as good as her dancing and you know, she is great, and I hope that her career goes up and onwards as she deserves."

The duo have been making all the wrong headlines recently, after Amy had to deny claims she'd been bullied by Danny.

During a chat on Strictly's spin-off show It Takes Two, she said: "Things did get a little bit intense the other day in rehearsals. Do you know what? We took a half-hour break and then got straight to it. I never felt threatened or bullied by Danny."

And Danny added: "The only reason I'm here this far is because of Amy. I would never bite the hand that feeds me. I am more than happy."

Before the eliminated pair were whisked off back into their day jobs, Amy had high praise for Danny.

"I just think it's lovely that the nation has been able to see your talent and to see you back out there performing again," she said. "So thank you for delivering such amazing performances week in, week out. And your children are going to be so proud of you."

Tonight's show also featured a special Remembrance Day performance by the Strictly Come Dancing professionals, alongside the RAF Spitfires Choir and the women of the RAF.

There was also a special musical appearance from Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday (November 17) on BBC One.
